We are a new 9th grade only school. I received a phone call Tuesday asking me to be on the PTO board in time for the Open House Thursday. The principal wants to collect dues Thursday night without there being an official board or by-laws, or anything. The school's bookkeeper is going to receipt the money and put it into a school account. I am very leery about collecting funds. The principal has also indicated he is in desperate need of funds and that is the main reason behind collecting dues Thursday. As someone who has been on PTA/PTO boards for many years, I am not comfortable about handing over the dues to the principal for his personal use without a day by the board or membership. Help!
