Critter--couldn't she just leave a space on the form she has for "Nominations from the floor" or something like that--maybe a write in candidate line and then save the rush to the copier? d

If the bylaws are silent on noms from the floor, and you operate under RRO, nominations from the floor ARE allowed. The person who runs the election that night (chairperson of your Nominating Committee??) should ask for any nominations from the floor. If there is one, she must indicate her acceptance of the nom (so s/he has to be present). Then the Chair asks for a motion to close nominations. THEN you vote. (you might need to rush to the copier and make up printed ballots on the spot). It sounds a bit clumsy and formal, but if you know there is someone lurking in the wings who deserves a chance to be considered, the process should be formal enough to give her the opportunity.

I need help fast! Our elections are this tuesday and our one and only vp candidate has withdrawn her name.

One candidate has now officially thrown her name in.

Another candidate was turned away, being told that "the position has already been filled."

Ummm, no, it hasn't. That isn't how things work.

I believe we're in the Nominations from the Floor phase but we've never done that before and our bylaws are silent on the subject.

And advice? Thanks in advance!!!
