sounds like your PTladies need to 'get religiion' as they say. seems you really need the support and help of the pastor to get em to run it like a true parent group. and if the pastor wont do it, you have to wonder how everything else there is run........

Yes, I'm very frustrated. Actually, we are trying to beat 'em...I'm runing for the prez and my sister in law is running for the secretary. They don't like us because we "asked too many questions" when I was new to the school, and noticed it didn't run like regular parent teacher groups. So in trying to get information, I was ousted from being invited to any more meetings.

We have talked to the principal and pastor on past issues that we've had and it seemed to get a little better (only because they are now supposed to take minutes, which if they do, they don't distribute them to the general school population.
I do have a call in to both the pricipal and pastor but they are both out of town for the holiday weekend.
I have thought about one last ditch attempt to get things "right" by forming a different group as you suggested, so ALL parents have a group they can belong to but the more I think about it the more my conscience won't let me bring my daughter back to that school for next year if this particular, very unethical situation isn't rectified. Which is too bad because as far as the school goes, I really like it.

Wow, I don't know if 'cliquey' is a real word, but it certainly applies to your situation! I can't imagine your frustration. From the limited information in your post, it seems like their behavior is counter to the very mission of parent groups.

I agree that this group is setting a very poor example, christian or not. Regardless of religeous orientation, we are, as civilized human beings, bound to moral codes.

I say, "If you can't join 'em, beat 'em." Start your own group, involve lots of interested parents and teachers, make it fun and relevant to the community and the old group will shrivle up and 'go away'.

I'd be interested to hear what the admin and school board have to say about this group of women. I also wonder if they might step in on behalf of the membership and mediate the situation.

My daughter goes to a christian school. The ptl there has been "run" (and I say that very loosely) by a group of four women who many years ago put themselves in the board positions because "no one else wanted to do it". Our bylaws (last updated 1992) say that a term is defined as two years and that the incumbent can succeed themselves for another term.
These women are very cliquey (is that even a word?)and wont'let anyone in to a ptl meeting unless you're invited. They do have "open" meetings every other month, but it's more like an informational meeting. No voting ever on anything.
Tuesday we are having elections for the vp and secretary. Ok, follow this...the current vp is running for prez. She was actually elected last November cause some parents made a stink about not having elections (yeah!)The current secretary, whose been in that position longer than four years (four years max according to bylaws)is running again for secretary!
After thinking about this for a long time, I just feel that it is so unethical for them to do this. So if the current vp wins the election, we are out of a vp position. AND...if you think about this long enough, you will realize that they can just keep switching positions and not ever allow anyone in!
...And from a "christian" school. I'm just really upset about this!!
