how can funds be spent

Well, it seems to me that your parent center is a social group and your parent club is a service group. It seems odd to me to combine the two.

Was the division of the groups clearly defined before? When fundraising was done, was the community clearly informed about what they were supporting? Maybe the principal heard complaints and is trying to clear things up.

In my personal opinion, combining the two groups essentially breaks up the parent center as I would see it as a huge conflict of interest. Once all funds are combined, it seems that you are fully a service group working for the betterment of the learning environment.

at our school we have a "parent center" and a "parent club", the parent center is for the parents and the parent club is for the students and the school.. (sorry if that was confusing) anyway.. in the past, the parent center would raise funds and go on trips. Just the members and family were invited. Is this a legal and OK thing to do?

Currently the principal has decided to bring the 2 clubs together as one. Now what my question really is.. Can a parent club/pto spend money on them selves like that? Parents are undecided wether or not to even provide refreshments at our meetings.. Im just very confused on what is OK as far as a club expense..
