Forming Bylaws Committee ???

I second what Critter has advised (been doing this alot lately!) and love the robertrules.com space!
There is a great Q&A forum with advise from actual parlementarians (if I could spell!) that has beena life saver for me!

Wording becomes the worse and teditous part but sadly to hope everyone agrees is asking Willy Wonka to open up the factory!

Yes an officer usually the president would have to vote on it. One from each of our schools Primary, Intermediate, Middle and High school. But for the most part I think thats who would be on the committee anyways so I would be getting there input all along. So I will have to see how that goes. We do meet each month so getting together shouldn't be a problem.
Yeah this could get involved, but they are so basic that they need to be done. :rolleyes:

Another complication to consider - do you need approval of all 4 groups before the new by-laws become effective. Or is it each group on it's own?

My group's bylaws review process takes 60+ days.

Step 1: I ask everyone to read the current bylaws, write down any suggested revisions and submit them to the Review Committee. The Review Committee asks for everything either in writing or via email. There is a 30 day limit for submissions.

Step 2: The committee then takes 30 days to review the bylaws, submitted suggestions and current trends. The committee drafts the proposed bylaws as one document with the suggested revisions highlighted.

Step 3: A week prior to the voting meeting the suggested revisions are sent out to voting members for review.

Step 4: At the voting meeting there is a Q&A time. If everyone likes the entire document as submitted, we adopt it through one vote. If individual items are rejected or further revised, we vote on those particulars first and then the rest as a whole.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes all 4 schools follow the same bylaws. I guess that was the problem they had rewrtiing them last time. No one could agree on anything. I think working on them piecemeal at a meeting would not be the proper procedures.

So what I am understanding is take in everyones suggestions, work them all in the bylaws, have someone write them up and then vote on them as a whole?????

Would it be better to have everyone write up their suggestions rather than debate about it?
