Thanks CrewChief. Loved your car!
The RROR book I recommend is Robert's Rule of Order the Newly Revised 10 th Edition. (a gold color cover) You can order a copy on e-bay or amazon.com or your local bookstore.

It's ok Sterling. Voting comes up a lot on these boards. You're not the only one confused by all of the do's and don'ts! What exactly does your bylaws say about voting? For example, my group's bylaws say:

Section 5 - Voting Privileges

All members of the Board, with the exception of the principal, may cast one vote. No vote may be cast by proxy. If the chairman of a committee is not present to cast a vote, one person representing that committee may cast one vote.

So, in our case, no proxy votes or abentee votes are allowed.

If your bylaws have no such wording, then Renee S is exactly right. Roberts Rules of Order is where to go next. If you don't have a book, check out www.rulesonline.com .

If you still have unanswered questions then just keep asking. There are a lot of smart people who regularly post here (like our friend Renee S!).

If it's not in your by-laws then yes you can. But ask the group as a whole if it is something they would like to do then amend your by-laws to state that yes it's allowd or no it's not. In my by-laws, one has to be present to vote, be nominated, and elected. But its up to your group.
When in doubt I'd follow RROR.
Good luck!

If our bylaws do NOT state that we CAN'T have absentee votes or proxy votes, does that mean that we can?
