Agree with above - there needs to be a formal vote to approve the nominee. It can be by voice vote (or motion for unanimous consent) - I don;t think an uncontested spot needs to be by secret ballot.
However, before a voice vote there needs to be an opportunity for additional niminations from the floor. If there are none you go to voice vote and are in like Flynn.
If someone else is nominated for the position it gets a little more complicated. Our Charter specifically says the person must be in attendance to accept the nomination (but I suppose a notarized letter would be legally acceptable too). Even before they accept the nomination, someone needs to check that they are eligible to run and serve in the position (again check the Charter or by-laws). If it is valid nomination and is accepted, then go ahead and vote.

That's what the wrte in spot is for too. Okay, that's what making me nervous about our election next week. I'm running unapposed and so worried someone is going to write in something crazy. Just ned to have my Robert's Rules with me!
This year all four of our positions were being uncontested, even with no opponents we still did the "voting" part just to make it legal! It's called Cover your butt!!!

There are many more versed than I but as I understand it you must still do a yes/no vote to put that person into office. Even if there is only one person, if they do not get the majority of yes votes than it is a vote of no confidence in that individual running for office and they cannot assume same....dianna
