I feel if these teachers do not support the HSA/they do not fundraise for the monies,and have not attended meetings in the past, but appear to only skew a vote- they should not be considered part of the voting body. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there precedent to set aside a vote-parents at the meeting wanted to check into leasing as we do for the computers, the burden for the cost of maintenance of the purchase was left open,(bulbs in the projectors run $300-$500 with a 5 year life, then there is the cost of the programs to put on them

Is this the issue?
The good news you can ask the Board to go back and review the minutes (hoping they took any!) and ask for a recount and question the entire proceeds! You won't be very popular but right now you need Roberts Rules of Order not your by-laws.

I would formally request a few minutes to speak to the entire Board and ask about last months (?) voting and you want to review and have a re-vote siteing this was a major decision and not enough notice or discussion was given. I would hold your thoughts on the fact that the vote was "stabbotaged"(SP) by the teachers, you focus first should be how this was not handled properly.

IF it's the PTO Board, it really could depend of the issues being voted on. I'm refering to the difference between approving a $50 purchase (which should be able to decided at the moment versus an entire playground revamp that warrents disscussion.

I may just find your other question here before answering more as the School Board reference in queenofthekids reply has me wondering what you are asking.

As far, as the school board letting your parents know abot coming, they should have. We have had two of our schools close, and in our experience, we have tried to petition against it, debated, cried and everything else but when it generally comes to school boards, they listen, take in ideas, then do what they have to. We were,basically, told there was not a lot PTO could do. Our bylaws are at the least vague and do not address this, is there anything in Roberts Rules of Order? I know our district School Board was called on the carpet for discussing the closing of a school and it was not noticied and no parents of the said school attended-as no one knew it was a possibility to be even discussed, so I am wondering if there is a guideline to follow in this situation. Depends on what bylaws say, our allows us to discuss New Business and vote if a specific deadline is required for said item at Board mtg. If not it is discussed, notated and tabled till next mtg.

If an agenda does not state specifically that a vote is to be taken on an item, should the item be discussed, tabled, and noticed for the next meeting where the vote is then taken? How do you handle a vote being taken without notice?

This ties into my past question. Any help would be appreciated.
