You aren't in Arizona by any chance are you??? We just had the same problem last week. We finally demanded our Treasurer show up with books in hand and it was an all out mess!!! She never kept the books completely straight...she always said, there is "about so much" in the account. This wasn't acceptable to our parents and it wasn't acceptable to us as a board. We were lucky though because she stepped down.

Eventually, the outcome will be a legal law suit and the dismissal of the PTO as it's entirity. People do not think of the legal consequences unless you deal with these problems on a daily work place environment. [/QB]

How sad that you would sue a PTO knowing the outcome would be disbandment. Who do you care about more, yourself or the students of your school? Forget it, I know the answer.

What about a parent/officer who does stuff regardless of the board vote? We have had a bad issue come up where a teacher got involved (after speaking with the board member in question) WITH HER STUDENTS when it wasnt anything that involved the students to begin with. We have a parent (board member) that has been a problem for quite some time (2+ years), along with her husband (non-board member). Our last PTO meeting was a screaming match pretty much. I have had board members resign because of this woman and I am afraid keeping her on the board will cause more resentment for many parties involved. If it wasnt for the children, I would resign but I dont want to teach my kids that quitting is the answer when things get tough. How do I handle this? 3 of our 5 board members have a problem with her..... What do we do? In order for this year to be productive with the children, the PTO needs to work together, which at this time we are not.

IN RESPONSE TO THE EVENTS TAKING PLACE AT YOUR SCHOOL...IF BOTH PARTIES HAVE BROKEN THE RULES, ONE (THE REMOVED MEMBERS) HAVING GONE AGAINST THE BYLAWS AND ANOTHER (THE OFFICERS) HOLDING AN INVALID VOTE, CAN'T A MEETING OF ALL PARTIES, INCLUDING A MEDIATOR (I.E. PRINCIPAL, DIR. OF PUPIL SERVICES, ETC.) BE HELD TO START OVER? IT SEEMS LUDICROUS THAT ANYTHING IN A PTO SETTING WOULD COME TO LAWYERS AND SCHOOL BOARDS AND EVENTUALLY A DISMISSAL OF PTO FUNCTIONS!!! I FEEL THAT THE ONLY ANSWER IN YOUR SITUATION WOULD BE TO ASK YOURSELVES, "WHAT CAN WE ALL DO TO SAVE THE PTO." IT MIGHT MEAN THE OFFICERS APOLOGIZING AND THE REMOVED PTO PARTIES ACCEPTING SOME BLAME AND REALIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF LEAVING LEGAL MATTERS OUT OF IT! IT IS CRAZY THAT ADULT ISSUES WOULD MEAN THAT CHILDREN WOULD LOSE THE BENEFITS OF A PTO. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT THE PTO'S MISSION IS TO ENRICH AND ENHANCE YOUR CHIDLREN'S SCHOOL EXPERIENCE. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE WILL WIN IF YOUR PTO IS DISSOLVED. CHILDREN SHOULD NOT SUFFER BECAUSE ADULTS CAN'T CONDUCT THEMSELVES IN A CIVIL MANNER!

PS WHERE IS YOUR HEAD TEACHER/ PRINCIPAL THROUGH ALL OF THIS?????
