Officer Impeachment

So if you have an officer that has been stealing from the group you just ask them to leave with out a reason?

I would think for legal CYA kinda stuff you would want that person to know why so there is not a question what the PTO membership was voting on and asking of this person.

You don't say why you want to remove officers. I hope it is for a very good cause that the vast majority of members would agree is a good reason. This kind of a situation can get ugly very quickly that could have repercussions for years. If the person(s) would be willing to leave/resign on their own accord, that would be best.

You should have written by-laws or a charter the describes how you can remove an officer. In our charter, a majority vote of the board with the advice and consent of the school Principal

In our bylaws you have to have majority vote by all members and a reason for their removal. All officers are sworn in but any of the other duties are just appointed and can be removed if the officers feel it is necessary.

Impeachment ISN'T the same as removal. You can impeach someone without removing them.

What are the reasons for impeaching the officers? Are you a fellow officer with them?

you can email me @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for a copy of my by-laws. Ours state that if an officer misses 3 unexcused meetings in a row then they are no longer an officer. I would write a letter first explaining why they are out & give them a chance to tell their story. Good luck.
