Any PTO sued recently?

Hi Pat,
I think this will help you to understand the numbers posted on the board. While I can't give you specifics to claims because of privacy issues, I can tell you what type of events these claims came from. We had many claims from inflatable devices and roller skating parties, as well as a lot of miscellaneous accidents from fun runs, field days, after prom parties etc. While none of these went to the "lawsuit" stage, the numbers posted on the advertising piece are real numbers paid under General Liability policies for bodily injury claims. If you notice on the marketing piece, it doesn't refer to lawsuits, specifically for that reason.

The majority of claims that we covered last year were results of accidents occurring at Fall Festivals or Spring Flings, both Carnival type events.

It might be very difficult to find information on "PTO Claims" unless they go to lawsuit status and are reported by news media outlets. I did some looking on the internet as well and found a report on Amusement Ride Related Injuries, that substantiates several injuries occurring at school carnivals...which could or could not have been PTO claims. I have posted that link for your reference here www.emerson-associates.com/safety/articles/amus2002.pdf. If you have any other questions, you are more than welcome to contact me at 1-800-876-4044 ext. 107. Thanks, Chad Joyce, Client Relations Manager, AIM.

Hi Tim, I guess I'm using the wrong term - no one at PTO Today or AIM can substantiate the #s quoted on the PTO Today website, whether that figure is for claims, payouts, lawsuit settlements, etc. At an average of $400-$500 per "claim" , ( as quoted by AIM) thats about 3800 claims yet I can't find 1 single case anywhere that can be substantiated. It will be a hrad sell to my PTO that we "need" excess insurance if the claims payouts can't be verified.

Quick note: for insured groups, often suits are not necessary, because claims are paid without litigation. I believe the numbers cited in the ptotoday.com article refer more to insurance claim pay-outs than to awards from actual lawsuits.

New to this Board & trying to get backup on the payout statistics noted on PTO Todays website re: Payouts on lawsuits.

I have searched high & low, near & far, locally & on the Internet, to find even 1 case of a PTO being sued. I'm coming up dry.

Can anyone point me to a website or have personal 1st person anecdotes re: lawsuits agaisnt PTOS?

Thx, Pat
