Board request

Your PTO Board Treasurer or your school district Governing Board Treasurer wants this information? School districts are audited regularly, and recently some new guideline, statute or something requires information from "supporting organizations", which would be PTO. Our PTO recieved a form (GASB 39) from our school district auditor which asked for basic information about our PTO's finances. This might be what they are asking for.

Though I have never been audited as a PTO, I have at other businesses. It seems odd that they want just one statement and no receipts unless they are: a)looking for a particular line item or amount spent or b) want to start keeping tabs on your year to year balance. Not to say that you shouldn't give them a copy of the information requested, but I would clarify what their intent is with said information to make sure they are getting the total picture. For example, someone could look at our statement right now and say we have $10,000 when we really only have about $5,000. We are just waiting for the bill from our fundraising company. Please keep us informed.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Our PTO recently received a request from the Board treasurer asking for a copy of our June bank statement. They said it was for their auditing purposes. We've never had to provide this before, and we're 501C3, so any ideas why they want this? I tried to contact them asking why and they haven't responded yet. Our principal told me it was part of their paper trail. I don't understand how we play a part in that. Has this been done at anyone's school?
