Who does your audits?

We have a parent volunteer audit our books monthly. she is a CPA and has done a great job for us---not only does she audit our books, but she has really helped us tighten up financial controls.

For our elementary PTO, the school district auditor does it (for free) during the summer months. At our middle school, the finances and programs are MUCH less, so volunteers (other officers not involved in the treasury function) handle it.

I think we are; I'll check with our President.

Thanks so much for the reply!

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

In the spring, we ask for a parent volunteer. We would never use an officer who has check signing authority (prez, vp, trez), but other than that, anyone goes. We don't stipulate that the volunteer be a CPA - figure anyone who is willing to volunteer to conduct an audit would know that they are capable to do it. We provide some guidelines and a worksheet, plus all the necessary files. Our fiscal year ends 7/31, so we have the review done in August.
