Insuffficent Funds

Annalee: Every year we always have a few bounced checks. The way we handle them is first that person is sent a letter by the Treasurer that there check has bounced and what they owe plus the amt owed to cover the banking cost of that check. If no reply from that letter a second letter more forceful of the first is sent to give them a chance to reply with the added info that if they do not reply then this matter will be taken to the magistrate in our area. If no reply a 3rd letter is sent with a deadline date of when to reply or it will be sent to the magistrate to press charges, this is sent via certified mail. We do not announce the bounced check at our meetings that is kept between the exec. board members. But we do consider whether that student should receive fundraising material if it is a repeated offense.

WE are a private for profit school, but the PTO is non profit. We had a situation last year where one family bounced a check for $250. We still haven't received payment. In our monthly treasurer's report, we put the last name and the amount of the money owed. the owners of the school are fearful that it will create bad will. However, the person has made no attempts to contact us concerning the money. should I keep the name off the treasurer's report?
