School Foundations, PTO,& by-laws

18 years 11 months ago #60205 by mykidsmom

One of our biggest concerns is that the Board wants control over our funds; parents will no longer have the ability to designate funds for any particular expense, all funds and valuables must be given to the District to use at their discretion.

We are just coming out of this particular cloud. Now why an entire school district would want to do this may be a head scratcher but if you think about how often in recent times so much money has been stolen from parents groups could be one reason but another could be the fact is, the district needs the cash! How we wereable to get out from under this was to agree to be a committee under the School Board. Now we are a charter school with our own school board and don't directly report to the school district.

You best bet would be to ask them what you are asking us. Our school has learned A LOT about what a school district can and can't do (mostly can!) and our eyes were opened!!! The other lessoned I learned, there is always someone that will talk to you, you just have to keep calling, e-mailing, asking...politely!

good luck yo ya!

School Foundations, PTO,& by-laws was created by <Rocky>
Our school just approved a school foundation. We have a strong PTO that has been around for over 50 years now. Now the school board wants to implement new policies for the PTO that are similar to the by-laws for the school foundation. If the PTO does not agree in writing to implement their new policies our ability to work in the school will be revoked. One of our biggest concerns is that the Board wants control over our funds; parents will no longer have the ability to designate funds for any particular expense, all funds and valuables must be given to the District to use at their discretion. We have 1 PTO for all the schools in the district, so that all schools would receive the same amount of funds. The enrollment at each school is the same. Does the district need to have the same policy implemented in the PTO by-laws, as the School foundation has in its by-laws for any reason?
