Thanks Tim.

We definately have some questions for our meeting tommorrow and hopefully all will go well.

I believe that there will also be a few more people "running" for they key positions also. Our PTO has become a clique and needs some fresh voices and thoughts.

Hi Courtney -

There's no legal top limit. That doesn't mean there aren't some common-sense ideas that make sense.

And yes, members should be able to view financials at any time and certainly should be getting a snapshot at meetings, etc.

Two things to work on:

1. Does you group have financial controls in place? Who are the authorized signers on checks? Who receives bank statement in mail? Is there an annual audit performed? (Should be. Doesn't have to be a CPA, but there should be annual double-check.)

2. Open up the discussion on the balance, what your group aims to do with its funds and finding a balance between always-fundraising and building involvement and creating a supportive atmosphere at school. Making a change in philosophy may take some time (and some new officers) and training (we talk a lot about this on this site and at our Conferences ---www.ptotoday.com/conference).

Good luck,

Tim

Does anyone know if there are limits to the running balance of a PTO account in PA?

We have a scary situation at our school right now where our PTOs balance could pay off someones mortgage and they insist on continuing to fundraise when we do not need any funds.

Also are we able to view the PTO's financial records or audit them? Yes I am a PTO member as are the other concerned parties if this helps.
