Does the parent/cook/pto sec get paid?

Right now the amount needs to be negotiated and paid. If it's just $100 or what the vote is there and without causing more hard feelings it just needs to be taken care of. Yes even if you have to bite your tounge the whole time! ;) Make sure this is all documented also.
NEXT TIME! get it in writing that this a volunteer job and she is donating her time. If she doesn't want to, fine, Plan B.

Not really happy and feel this was dirty how this was turned on the PTO but all you can do now is chalk it up as "next time....."

Thinking for the Principal right now, I honsetly feel that he/she wanted to keep their employee happy and she much have complained. Just do right by her but make it clear if she is needed again that the PTO was asking for her time and energy as a parent NOT the school cook.

What do I think? This is just the reason why we don't use the school kitchen for anything. We have never been able to establish a volunteer or pro-bono work with the "Kitchen Manager". Sad but true.

The way I look at it she is on your board as a volunteer. If she volunteers to cook for this night then she does it as a volunteer and not as a paid employee. If you did not have her other volunteers would be doing the cooking for free.
This would not sit right with me at all and I would tell the principal as much.

We had a Rigatoni dinner fund raiser back in August for our open house. Since then we have had 2 PTO meetings. We have them every first thursday of the month. Just last week the Principle decides to call an "executive committee" meeting, which consists of Principle, Pto President, VP, Treasurer (school librarian) & tresurer (school cook) so that tells you the majority of the vote is already set in stone since majority is school employees. Anyway the Principle brought to the table to PAY the school cook for her 4 hours of service at the fund raiser!! Now let me also say this, the school cook is a parent of 3 at this school & also the PTO secretary. When she was asked to help, she was asked to volunteer NOT be HIRED!! Of course it was voted w/majority rule & then the Person in charge of food administration wrote a paper saying she was to be paid time & a half since she was in meetings all day & already put her time in & this was before school even started! HELP!! What steps can I take to make this right?? We are a very very small school with very limited funds, the monies can not be spent so foolishly!!
