how to leave a seat as an officer

Yes, You have it... The problems with the suites are. That The PTO should know some of the things we know at our school. I know more than the district office. At the end of last year the Sec. took it upon herself to help with report cards. and other papers only parents should see. Parents and teachers came to me and asked that she leace the room. But as she is would not leave.
I thank you for your advice. Iam just worried with my name still sitting on the account. I would like to put bylaws in and hold an election. I want the PTO to do good. Our teachers are in bad need of money right now.And I can not help. The way our PTO has run the money is in the past 10 years as I found it only the officers vote on it. I know it is a mess. But to get through this I will do anything. At this point the school may shut down the PTO for a few years. So where does the money go? This is my daughters last year at the school.

I'm actually glad I came to this late because I think I understand what's going on here.

This is what I am getting and tell me if I'm wrong...

The only officers left on the board is you and the secretary. As the treasurer you have to give the bank book to someone to resign. Since the secretary won't take it, the school will. (is this correct so far?)

Since the Pres and the VP are not on the board anymore, the school has taken it upon themselves to find their and your replacements. You want to be a part of this process but the school will not allow you, as a board member who is about to resign, to hold the meeting.

If I'm getting this correctly (and I may be off, it's a little hard to understand exactly what you are having a problem with) You don't want the school to take over the PTO but you don't want to be on the board either. You want them to let you do what you do best but you don't want to stay and do it. (No, you aren't coming across clearly and I do hope it's only as it pertains to your typing skills, if not, that could be the problem right there in a nut-shell)

Are you willing to find the replacements for the President, VP and yourself? What part do you want to play in electing new officers? If the school is willing to look for parental replacements and to hold an election to find them, then perhaps it's better for not only all involved but your own sanity to just let them do it. It may not follow Robert's rules but it may be the quickest, least painful way to accomplish what needs to be accomplished.
I don't see how anyone could be sued over this though. I'd be very careful about making statements like that unless you know for sure what you are talking about. I don't see anything litigious in this situation so far.

Please don't post anymore to this thread.... Go to the thread by <leslie> on officer elections and post there instead--this is the same issue!

Then gracefully hand the checkbook to the President and say I'm sorry, I need out. Stick your tounge out at the Secretary and come the world of volunteer moms.
Walk away. Just walk away. No, it's not easy, but just like anything you do in life, you have to take care of YOU! Walk away.

I guess Iam having a hard time typing what needs to be said. I am the treasure of the Pto/ For 2 years. I do want out because of the problems. Only as an officer. I am at the school everyday. I do copies, anwser phones, go to the store with the Po. for the school. I live at the school 5 days a week. I help where the teachers need help. It is just sad to me that a person can make me want out. But I do not have the fight in me for the officers anymore.
