Robert's Rules of Order not followed

19 years 10 months ago #58933 by Daddio044
Your group should have required general meetings (our bylaws require 4 during the school year). My advise is attend a meeting and have your concerns ready to address. Robert's Rules allow for new business and that's where I'd recommend you speak up.

In addition to your concerns, have some possible solutions and recommendations. Based on experience, people are more open minded if they have multiple things to think about, not just the "way it's been done'.

Also - talk to other parents. If others have the same concern, have them attend the meeting as well.

Be prepared to NOT get your issue resolved on the first attempt. It is most likely not going to happen. If your PTO is like ours, things happen with baby steps.

Good luck.

I've been attending our school's parent club meetings for a year now, since moving to the area. I was referred to the club when I complained to the principal about the club's junk food sales. I've been unable to talk about my concern at the meetings because the president will not recognize me. She also never includes "new business" as part of our meetings.

I've tried emailing and personally talking to the club president about my desire to talk to our club, but she still refuses to give me any time.
I only want 5 minutes to state my concern to the group. Am I asking too much? What should I do?
