Officer Appointments

I have to agree with backhoed, if your bylaws do not state that the officers include co-anythings then technically, you can't have them. However, if it is common to have had co-anythings in the past, you can ammend your bylaws with a vote and insert them.
Perhaps if their is a chair position available, this second person would like to take that on instead and "get their feet wet", so to speak.

Then according to your bylaws those are the officers. Our bylaws were amended over 10 years ago to change the VP position to Co President. We have 2 Co Presidents, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer.

Inform the other person who was interested in the position that it has been filled at this point and in accordance to your bylaws there are no co positions but you would like her to consider running for a board position next year.

You might want to ammend your bylaws enable Co positions. I would definitely bring up amending your bylaws with your board and general membership to enable Co Positions if you feel it would be helpful to your group. Have a great school year! ;)

Unfortunately our by-laws do not say anything about co's. It just says that our Executive Board consists of Pres., V.P., Sec., Tres., and Ways & Means. We have co-secretaries this year and had several co-board members before without any problems.

What does your bylaws say? I would go by the bylaws. Your bylaws should say somewhere who the elected officers are. You have to abide by them. I also believe that you have filled the position and had a majority board vote on that.

It is too bad these people did not come forward when there were ELECTIONS. Perhaps you can find a committee for this person to head during the year and she can run for the VP position during next years ELECTIONS.

It is really great to have another energized person come forward - put them to work on a committee! Make them feel welcomed too!

First of all - your school is lucky to have enough volunteers to have co-anythings!! Just kidding! But alot of schools do have problems filling first chairs, nevermind co-chairs.

Anyway, I think it is wonderful to have as many volunteers as possible! Two minds are better than one! Maybe your president will see the light, and realize it is better to have co-chairs rather than no-chairs!!!

Good luck!

In March 2004 we held our nomination and election of our new board. Every position but one (Vice-President) was filled and approved. In May a parent aproached our President and said she was interested in the V.P. position. It was voted by the board and she was approved. We never announced before the school year ended that the position of PTO V.P. was filled. So in July another parent came forward for the V.P. job was told it was filled so she asked if she could be Co-V.P. It was O.K. with the V.P. to have a Co (other positions were held that way and it is not in out PTO Comstitution not to have Co's of any kind) but the President is not too happy. If we took a vote amongst the board we would have the majority in favor of her as the Co-V.P. Could someone come up and ask to be Co like this - what is the proper procedure to follow since it states no where that you can or cannot do this?
