President's Child no longer at school

As they all said above, check the bylaws. I know ours allows any family member or anyone living in the school community in.

To the best of my knowledge they will have to give you a copy of their bylaws. I do not know of anything that protects them from having to give you one. When you meet with the Super you can ask him too. Hell, if you have to be a member to get a copy, then become a member.

I would ask for a copy of them at a meeting. So that if they try to deny you they will have to do it in front of everyone present. If they still deny you then my next thought would be to ask the Super to request the copy for you. Because there is no reason why they should deny you a copy of their bylaws and it will only make them look bad and look as if they are up to no good. You might also want to mention to the super that they denied you access to their financial info. Perhaps it will give him a reason to look into it and start asking questions.

Serendipity, thank you for the answer. AND for answering my question on the other forum

I will ask for a copy at the first meeting for this school year.

Oh, must they give me a copy, as long as I am a member?? The reason I ask, I had tried to get a copy of their financial records 2 years ago, it came to light they may have been hiding funds. I tried to get a copy on every level and no one would help. It came to the point where I had had it and let it go, not joining the PTA again. And yes, not joining was the easy way out but because of all the road blocks, I did give up. It was too frustrating.

I would not want to have to go through that again.

Thanks!

Mommy 24....Your PTA has its bylaws and you will have to request a copy from them. You can ask the principal as well, but in all likeihood they will not have a copy, becuase These oprganizations are really seperate from the school.

I want to thank you OP for posting about this!! And thanks for the replies!!

We have a PTA board that consists of members who do not have children in the school (this has been going on for years).

Now, my question, how am I able to read the by-laws of our PTA?? Who do I go to?

Thanks for any help!!

Serendipity is right - check your bylaws. It may not state this directly, but be a tiered rule.

Ours say that an officer must be a member in good standing.

They also state that membership is open to anyone who has a child in the school.

In this situation (at our school), he couldn't be a member, therefore he couldn't be an officer.
