I am looking for examples of PTO/Volunteer liability issues. Our school board is involved in the decission making as to wheter or not our PTO should inc. or apply for tax exempt status. They insist that all the concerns that I have can be resolved by having our PTO as a school controlled PTO. I have not found anyone within the county that can shed light on what kind of insurance coverage they have where PTO/Volunteers are concerned. I am looking for examples of issues that I can bring to their attention to convience them this is an important issue they need to pay attention to and not shrug it off. The counties attorneys say that in their 30 years of practicing nonprofit law that they have never had a lawsuit against a PTO. I say there is a first time for everything. This is the first time in the history of our PTO that we have had substantial funds to protect, not to mention the importance of protecting our Officers and Volunteers. Thanks for any feed back.
