Do your bylaws state that you follow Robert's Rules of Order? I am by NO means an expert on the subjet, but one thing I have gotten from RRR is that you MUST protect your members. One quote I am using to intro my new "standing Rules" is:
"There is impartiality and fairness. The rule is by law and enactments, not by the whims of the leadership. The rules are applied equally, impartially, and fairly, to all and not just a select few."
I am assuming that you get little to no parental involvement. We also have that problem. My fellow board members want to "bash" the parents but in reality - just sending fliers home is not enough - and we the board bear some responsibility and need to make a real effort to reach out to parents. For example, I am thinking about calling each member and invite them to the election meeting (that would be a job of the nomination committee, but oops no one volunteered to be on it). I guess what I am saying is that you need to A) try to get the pres. to step back and look at the big picture and
above all protect your membership.
I do agree with everyone else that if the pres' plans go through it will be the beginning of the end for your pto.
