Bylaws

Our bylaws give the President the authority to appoint a person to assist an officer in a "Co-" capacity. This is allow one job to be done by two people that may not be able to do the entire job by either by themself. The Executive Board must approve this action. The "Co-" position is for the duration of the current term or until ended sooner by the President.

OUr by-laws state the same thing BUT my year as president was also spent as my own secretary and the VP and I took turns balancing the checkbook! If sharing the office was THE only way the board could assure themselves of having a full board then it's better than no one and everyone is fustrated.

I'm having fun with the wording but the way I looked at it, it says we need four offices but it doesn't say HOW or WHO fills those offices ;) . Seriously, some by-laws I have seen do but mine didn't.

Do talk to the board but ask how this came about and will the membership get a chance to discuss this matter. Let them know your concerns, it may have just been a matter of two moms willing to share the duties and the board felt comfortable with it. Do talk it over.

Depends on your by-laws but typically splitting the position into two would need to be put before the members. The members of your organization should make their feelings known, and ask that it be voted on.

We had one of our voted officier step down at our last meeting. The Executive board filled the position. That I understand. But they also split the position into another and filled that position? This was never brought before the members are they aloud to do that? Our bylaws state that there are 4 position to be held President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.
