I need HELP...Somebody please help me!

This is a good one....First of all, if you can't have a tie breaking vote done that night when are you proposeing to have it (Dave?) As a matter of fact if the Principal is a member and was present AND on the board HE/SHE could have been the deciding vote.

Now as I understand it, the new Prez can in every sence of the meaning, recind/resign/ tell the Principal to take this office and.....and at that time either the VP can step up as President or a new election is needed, depends on your by-laws and that is the best I know from Robert's Rules at 11:02 pm ;)

I don't think our friend Dave knows about write in votes and I want to remind him she did yadda yadda the story to spare us ALL the details.

As far as sharing the office and duties of Tres. THAT you need to look in your by-laws. It's not unheard of for the Sec to take on the dual office (I did with the help and support of my Pres and VP) but you really need to check your by-laws.

As far as your Principal, keep it cool and let the new Prez do and handle this issue. Remember, she didn't have to agree to it and he put her in a really "crappy" position. This issue should remain between them. Would she be willing to chair a committee? She can't be all that terrible if she was "hand picked".

Just remember to keep your members informed to cut down on the rumors......

i hate politics too

Ok lets tackle this one item at a time!

Did the election follow the rules established for your elections? This is a yes or no answer.

If yes in what way did they violate the rules?

If no, what's the beef?

The fact that you were running for President and was elected Treasurer seems strange to me at the least. Do your rules permit this?

You hold tie breaking votes the same night?

Many by laws use the same old rules from their PTA days! I have no idea why!

Next item, I am sorry thep principal felt a need to get involved at this level, but allow me to remind people, that it is the principals school! Yes you can have a PTO, but you arent going to accomplish much without the principals ok to do it! Having a good working relationship with the principal is knowing how to support their goals and objectives and I ought to add that more often than not those goals parrell the PTOs state purpose!

While you ponder and answewr the above - here are some ideas for others that will read this.

Get rid of those nomination committees! If you want have a committee that goes around asking a whole lot of people to run for various offices ok, but get rid of the nomination clique. Those rules established by the PTA in my opinion are designed as a good old boy system to make sure that only the people they like get to run. Being buddies is what this system is about not about finding people that can do the job!

Next set a filing deadline date prior to the election day. This mean getting rid of "floor" nominations as well. If a person is serious about doing a board member job, then they ought to be willing to go by the school and put their name on a piece of paper a couple of days before the election.

Next establish an absentee voting system! Expand the voting to people that for what ever reason can't make it to the election meeting. Enable don't disable.

Campaign! If you really want the job you will find a way to get your message across! This also forces the people running to listen to the people that will elect them!

PTO means thinking outside the PTA box. That is if you left the PTA for more than just the money they kept stealing every year! (Sorry Tim, I know, I know and I will appologize here and now, but it just had to be said).

I just left a PTO meeting to which re-elections were being held. I was the previous President. A few weeks ago it was brought to my attention by some concerned parents that some school administrators were seeking a new president. After some collective investigation we found that a school administrator had a closed door meeting requesting someparents seek out a new person. At our elections this evening there were more than 5 teachers present and an ex-teacher that had not children in the school.

Anyway......I waas running for re-electon of Pres and 2 other parents that I know were running for 1st & 2nd VP.....before we knew it there was a tie with me and another parent (the one that she administators wanted in office, and theparent & I both knew it)....there was a tie breaker....during this time the other parent said to me that she did not want the position as Pres., I told her that if she wanted it I would help her.......

anyway...there is so much to this story, but to make a long story no so long.....

after the other parent was voted in as Pres. and I treasure,, the principal pulled her aside and told her she wanted to speak withher tommorrow to discuss the bi-laws and relationship with the principal and PTO Pre.

When I got home, myself the new Pres. and the 1st VP talked on the phone and shared our observations of the evenings events...collectively we agreed that things were done underhandingly.

We are suppose to meet offsite on Tuesday, but the new Pres. no longer wants the position with this type of element (she feels she needsto avaoid the Principal, because she knows she wants to control her). I on the otherhand have no desire to be apart of an organization that allows this type of garbage....it is apparent that somebodies wanted me out for whatever reason...but the was the administration went about it was very shady.

Please give me your feed back, and tell me......can a PTO go forth with out an active treasurer? Can the Pres, VP and Sect, play the role as treasurer?

Somebody please help me.....why does this have to be so political?
