Start up a PTA. You have to have an executive board to run a PTA. Your principal is using her parents for her own selfish needs. She is not being supportive of her parents. he how well she does without a parent group!
Good Luck

Since a PTO can pretty much run by their own by-laws, I think the principal would not be legally wrong with her decision. Is it a school wide opinion to go to this type of format? Has a survey been done? How is she backing up her decision? Always remember that she/he has a boss. In my school I am currently facing a very nasty situation with our principal of three years. I do not want to go over her head, but she is not acting in the best interest of the school. I do not stand alone, but she does. However our principal is under the mis-understanding that it is her school to make decisions as she sees fit. I'm under the understanding that I, along with the other parents, pay taxes. Therefore we do pay her salary, therefore we do have a say. I always go by the rule of doing what I think is right, and that might not always be popular. At first I had concerns about the treatment of my children and my comfort level when enterring the school. I discussed this with a few of my teacher friends that I knew I could trust. They informed me that there was nothing she could do. Our teachers call their own subs, so she could not black ball me in that way. also, the teachers will not treat a child any different because of politically issues. I did go to the principal to change some of her policies to better reflect what the teacher/parent/student body wanted, but she refused. My next step was/is her supervisor. We have a meeting coming up very shortly. Just remember, the parents have to be the voice for the school. The kids are not validated, and the teachers are afraid of their jobs becoming a living nightmare. We have a right, and we are the ones that can and will make the difference. Hang in there.

My husband and I are currently on a board for the PTA at our children's current school. We are moving to a different city. The new school has a PTO. We are new to a PTO and do not know much about it. We went to their meeting last week to get a feel and see about getting involved. We was informed that next year there will be NO BOARD! Is this normal? This is the princiapl's first school year there and it seems she has made this decision? They will have committees with one person in charge of each committee and to handle the bills they will have a financial advisor. Please let us know if it is normal for a PTO to NOT have a board and what you think? Thanks!
