another treasurer question

Way back when our bank account was started, the bank set us up as a personal account and all signers gave their own ss#. Last year our bank reviewed their files and switched us to a business bank account which was really more applicable since we are a business. When we switched signers all that was needed was the tax id for our PTA instead of the signers ss#. Of course as a business the fee structure was different. So if your PTA or PTO has its own tax id number than I would say you don't have to give your ss# if you have a business account. If you don't have a business account it would probably be a good idea to get one even if the fees are higher so that you can get your ss number off.

As far as liability, as long as the checks you signed were for legitimate purposes with proper backup I don't think you have anything to worry about. I doubt that you would have signed anything that was for illegal purpose! And how much in dollars are we talking here. Even if something was wrong who would be injured and by how much? Probably not big dollars. I think you are ok.

Hope this posts;tried it once and it wouldn't.

Last year we couldn't keep a treasurer and the pres ended up doing the job while another person let us use her name in that slot so we would be legal. I'm a vp so I'm a signer on the account, with a card signed at the bank.

Our current treasurer is trying to do things right and he told me last night that during county PTA training they said never to let the bank put your SS# on the signature card or you are liable if there is a problem; well, my SS# IS on my signature card and I'm a little concerned. The account is probably ok, but things were done unconventionally last year and there are a lot of checks with my signature as a counter-signature.

My question is a twoparter: 1) Is it true I am liable if there are discrepancies in the account?, and 2) Can we actually refuse to let the bank put our SS# on the signature card if that is their policy? Has anyone else run into this? (okay, that's 3 questions, lol.)

Just fretting away...
