TY For your input, maybe it didnt come off right. What I meant was that our current presidents term is up in May, our current VP will be moving ot another school, and our current 2VP has no clue what to do and no former Pres or VP to guide her. WE are really trying to get out of the cliques thing, it is hard though you always seem to gravitate to your old trusty volunteers. In order to ensure wehave someone who knjows how to effectively run our PTA if the current Pres would become VP, she would be a great resource person.

Thanks for all the great advice!!

I also agree with a president elect position - which the Nat'l PTA does as well. This does help prepare for the change of dutites while allowing for great leadership in training. As far as the other other roles that you were proposing re-allocation, I caution against that.

Very easily the membership may suspect a clique developing and we always want to avoid that exclusive circle - but instead always encourage new people volunteer to come and help - share new knowledge, experience and skills - or just be willing to learn along the way. That's one of the reasons we always have so many workshops ongoing at so many levels - for all those willing to learn more knowledge and take it back to their PTA/PTO.

Best of luck with your proposals and future leadership development roles. Oh yes, find out where there are some workshops ongoing for people that are interested in getting some training for roles that they may wish to gain add'l knowledge, before deciding to put their name up for nomination as the close of this year.

Your proposal doesn't sound nutty at all. A lot of boards use the term "president-elect" instead of vice president and that person automatically moves up to president the next term. As for the other positions, I would open them for nominations. New blood is always good and especially for the executive board. Good luck with whatever you decide.

HI everyone, I am really new to this site but so far I LOVE IT!! I have a plan i ma working out in my mind and I want to run it past some impartial people.

I am the 2nd VP Elect of a PTA, K-5 about 425 students. Our executive board currently consists of Pres, VP - who plans all unit meetings, 2nd VP - in charge of ways and means, me 2nd VP Elect in training for 2nd VP position, handles several of the fundraising ventures, Rec Sec and Treasurer. Where our problems come in we have a president who was vp for 2 years and then a co-pres for 2 years. Our last term VP moved on to middle school, leaving us with no VP this year. Everyone is up for reelection the end of the year, 2002-2003. I want to propose something that may sound nutty. SO that we dont have this problem in the future, I would like ot say that the person serving as 2nd VP this year moves on to pres next year, the now pres moves on to VP and I would move up to 2nd VP. And kind of continue this way. Ensuring that we always have someone on the exec board that knows what is going on. Does this make sense???? I am not able to adequately express this.

Please post and let me know what you guys think. I am looking at a long long time in this school still to come. My oldest is in HS, and i have a 4th grader, a 3 y/o and a little guy who will be one on 09/11. 17 years total in this one school before we are done so the future is extremely important to me.

TY If you read this entire post, gosh it is long!!
