Nominating Comm. Problems

Thanks for the info so far. It is just confusing on the part of the nominating committee not excepting her for an office. The Principal is even concerned, this person will not serve the school, the children, the staff, or the board well. She is not a "team player".
People are seeing her on the board, or the possiblity of being on the board, and are already saying they will not work with her. She is to run our Carnival next year, and alot of people are already saying they will not help if she is in charge. She has said alot of hurtful, untrue things about this years board and the staff and it has weighed heavy in people's hearts. None of her comments have been constructive in manner, they have all been very demeaning, and distructive. When asked how we can better te board next year, she says for all of us to just go away. Her comments were put into the survey, and just so you see that this feeling is not wide spread, most of the surveys were totally positive in nature. The ones that were not, were atleast saying how they did not care for the way we did this...but can we try this...
Roberts Rules are not to clear on how to run an effective Nominating Committee. If any one can share their beginning to end stories, it might shed some insight. :(

If she is on the nom. comm., she must excuse herself from the discussion when you meet to talk about that position. She must leave the room. But it's your job to nom. the best available canidate for the position. You may have to go out and solict someone to accept your nomination. But if no one will run and she's all you got, well... be careful not to hurt feelings or burn bridges. You will have to work with her if elected. If she's wins she is still just one vote on a board. Why aren't people willing to serve?

It is the job of the nominating committee to reach a consensus and present the best possible slate. They may not all agree that a candidate is the best for a job. Your organization does not have to agree that a candidate is the best for a job.

If you know of a better candidate who is willing to stand for the office, then nominate them from the floor. That's what the nominating portion of the election is for.

It's the nomination committees job to seek the right person for the office. If there's are offices not filled hopefully the night of voting or day at your general meeting there could be some nominations from the floor and then members should vote for the right person regardless is she's the only one on the ballot there could be a nomination from the floor and that would be a write-in canidate and hopefully parents will pay close attention and vote for the right canidate. Make each canidate give a 2 minutes speech at the beginning of the meeting to talk about themselves this would give parents a better idea of who to vote for.

PLease help quickly. We have a Nominating Comm. in place, and this committee has met once. Not all the positions on the Boardhave been filled so we asked for further information on one person and for the whole Committee to go out and find other people to be nominated.
The problem is...We have one person running for a position that some feel will not represent the Board, school or children well at all. She is also on the nominating commitee. How do we not accept her nomination? Right now we do not have anyone to run against her but I have heard a few people interested in the position, but have not committed to it yet?
