Quorum

The official web site of Roberts Rules of Order is www.robertsrules.com. They have a discussion forum there where all your parliamentary questions can be answered by folks who can quote chapter and verse.

The best rule for a quorum I ever heard was that it should be as many people as can be reasonably expected to attend a regularly scheduled meeting. If you routinely don't have enough for a quorum, then your standard is too high. I've belonged to more than one organization that defines a quorum as how ever many members show up for a regularly scheduled meeting.

We have an Exec. Board of 12, so we require 8 be present for a quorum.

We have 6 Board members and our by-laws state that we need 4 present for quarum. Now that is for our board meeting, not the regular monthly meetings.

As far as guidlines/help, check with Roberts Rules of Order. I know it's not the most exciting reading but it can help. Also they have a web site, I think it's robertsrules.com
it's been awhile---does anyone know if that's right?
Hope this helps...

What are some of the quorums out there? This might help us to determine what is most realistic.
We require a majoity of the Board Members for our monthly meetings.( We have 21 Board Members, so our quorum is 12).

I believe you would have to change it in your by-laws, which would take a vote from the board and then put it before the general membership for it is those who, you as a Board, are representing. I know what you mean though, our's requires a 2/3 to have a quorum, and many times I have arrived an hour early for an Exec. Bd meeting only to have to sit there because not enough board members showed up...

We are constantly having a problem establishing a quorum at our monthly Board meetings. Ours is a majority. Which for us is 12 Board Members present. How do we go about changing this, can we take a vote at the next meeting or what. Help!
