Has your principal been a problem in the past? If you can work with him, then my response would be to suggest you talk to him. Try to find out why he is so opposed to the idea.
Maybe he knows something you don't?
We have been successful fundraisers, and have done a lot for our school. If I thought another school was trying to make a grab for our funds, I would be upset. Maybe the principal thinks that is what is happening?
You know he doesn't like the idea. Now try to find out WHY he doesn't like the idea. He might be on to something -- either a real "threat" or just an important safeguard that needs to be built in.
On the other hand, you may be dealing with professional rivalries between two principals. Or a "take my ball and go home" mentality. But until you know which it is, it is hard to be sure how to proceed.
Hi, I'm the President of a PTO in a small communtiy, we have about 550 students in k-6, 150 in 7 -8, and another 500 or so in 9-12. All of the children are in one building with three different principals.
Our PTO is only 5 years old and only covers k-6. We were asked to expanded to include the Jr. High. At our last meeting we voted to admend our by-laws to include the Jr. High. When the elementary principal heard of this (he does not attend meetings and did not even join this year) he claims that he will disban the PTO if we follow through.
Has anyone had to deal with anything like this before? What do you think?
