Don't sit down on this. If they don't have By-Laws after some being in term 3 years, there is definitely a problem here. Remember the PTO are suppose to be representing the familes of the school. Let your voice be heard. Amazing.

Dun-
I see that several people responded with helpful advice over on the RRO site (thanks for re-posting there, Jewel).

Curious to hear if have gone back to the board? Please keep us posted.

I posted your question on the Robert's Rules of Order forum. Just go to the Roberts Rules website, to the Q/A section. Your post is titled "PTO refuses to do.....everything".

Hello,

Our current PTO are denying us our constitutional rights to suit their needs!

Last year when asked for the bylaws, they said they were not given any and would make a new one.

8 months later the new one is no where to be found, we have repeatedly asked for a copy of the by laws, they simply ignore the requests.

We ask for a copy of the minutes that is ignored as well!

They said that they (the board) have voted on the new bylaws.

We cross-checked every single weekly newsletter for this year and there was no notice for a change or amendment to the bylaws.

There were two open PTO General Meetings for the school year and the new or amended bylaws were never tendered!

We are baffled that we ask for bylaws and minutes and never receive it.

They have now announced a date for elections and calling for candidates for the positions they have decided to open.

Last year all positions were opened.

This year, the current officers who want to stay on, have chosen the positions they want to switch to, one has already been on the board for 2 years, this will make her third term!

They also informed us in an email with the AGM notice that they have decided to align themselves with the school board! A PTO!!

We have informed them that we intend to pass a motion at the AGM that whatever bylaws they are using which we do not even have access to is not legal whether amended or new because no PTO member apart from the board voted on it!

Quite a dilemma, I apologise for the lengthy explanation.

I would like to ask this community for advice on anything else they think we can do in this situation.

Thanks.
