I'm getting ready to file our Form 8367 because our advance ruling period also ends in December, plus I get to do our annual 990 this month too! Thanks for the links. I'll be checking it out.

The IRS has a new series of free online training courses to help tax exempt organizations the basic rules. I tried the first one. It was a little clunky to step through, but provided some good information. It took about 20 minutes.

Check them out and report back as to your thoughts.

On-Line Workshop for Exempt Organizations
Welcome to the IRS online training

The Internal Revenue Service is providing a new Web-based version of its popular Exempt Organizations Workshop covering tax compliance issues confronted by small and mid-sized tax exempt organizations.

The free online workshop – Stay Exempt – Tax Basics for 501(c)(3)s – consists of five interactive modules on tax compliance topics for exempt organizations:
  1. Tax-Exempt Status – How can you keep your 501(c)(3) exempt?
  2. Unrelated Business Income – Does your organization generate taxable income?
  3. Employment Issues – How should you treat your workers for tax purposes?
  4. Form 990 – Would you like to file an error-free return?
  5. Required Disclosures – To whom do you have to show your records?
Users can access this new training program at Stay Exempt. Users can complete the modules in any order and repeat them as many times as they like. The online training website does not require registration and its visitors will remain anonymous.
