The first meeting can bring on the sweats for even the most laid-back parent group leader. But if you prep the right way, follow our steps for running a meeting, and relax as best you can, you’ll find yourself actually enjoying yourself! We’ve rounded up the best resources for you, including our list of tips for planning, organizing, and managing your time, ideas for using Facebook Live at meetings (very big these days!), and a free printable meeting agenda template as well as printable icebreakers and conversation-starters.

Focus on Fun

If you’re friendly, willing to have a few laughs, and able to keep the meeting to less than an hour, you’ll be a success. Don’t get too hung up on running the perfect meeting—just be yourself. You’ll find our list of ideas for better meetings super helpful.

Include Parents Who Are at Home or Stuck in Traffic

To include parents who can’t make your meeting in person, try a broadcast via Facebook Live. This way, parents can participate in real time from home while cooking dinner (or wherever they might be). They can ask questions and share ideas.

Don’t Try To Wing It

We have an agenda template for you to share with parents so they’ll know what the meeting topics will be. The agenda is really your best friend. It’ll keep you on track and help you bring the conversation back to the scheduled topics. And believe us, the conversation will go off-topic!

Help Parents Relax

Parents can find meetings really awkward when they don’t know anyone. Help them out with fun conversation-starters, which you can download and put around the meeting room. Or, if you’re feeling ambitious, have one of your volunteers run a game of icebreaker bingo!
