  • Schedule a meeting with the principal as close to the start of the school year as possible to talk about about how your group can support the school.

  • Plan a couple of summer board meetings to share thoughts and information for fall. (It’s also a good way for new officers to get to know others better).

  • If you haven't already, make sure your school's supply lists are posted on TeacherLists.com (our sister site). Parents can shop your school's exact lists in one click!

  • Take care of your teachers. Plan an easy welcome back appreciation gesture.

  • If you’re allowed into your school during summer, think about sprucing it up: tidying the front of the school, washing main windows, and updating your bulletin boards can give everyone a boost.

  • Appoint someone as the summer communication lead for your website and social channels to keep those resources quickly updated with information about going back to school.
  • Review your bylaws. Be sure that you’re familiar with them and that overall they’re up to date.
