s week’s roundup of ideas from the news includes a snack delivery, a gadgets sale, and a handy reminder for volunteers.
- Refueling: How about teaming up with a local grocer to provide snacks to teachers during a professional development day? The Special Education PTA in Manhasset, N.Y., and a local Whole Foods Market provided a healthy treat to teachers during a recent teacher-training day by sending in 250 bananas and boxes of breakfast tea.
- Gotta hand it to you: We found this fun idea on Pinterest. The PTA at Hidden Oaks Elementary in Lake Worth, Fla., gives these hands (right), made from sturdy cardstock (with magnets on the back), to volunteers when they sign up to help out. The hand can go on a volunteer’s refrigerator as a reminder of their commitment. What’s more, it’s a nice way to remind everyone that when parents lend a hand, it really makes a difference.
- Electronic enterprise: Could you add a used electronics gadgets sale or swap at your next yard sale or other big event? It could prove profitable. It’s in the plans for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro (N.C) school district’s PTA Thrift Shop, which has been in operation for decades. The group is adding a “Gadgets Galaxy’’ at its store with a setup similar to an Apple Genius Bar so volunteers can help people make selections.
