We chose a long weekend to do [a teachers’ lounge] makeover. We went with a pub and lounge feel. We cleaned everything out and painted. We installed new countertops, bar-top seating, a hot water heater, two pub-style tables, four pub chairs, side tables, rugs, and a flat-screen TV. Early on Tuesday morning, we covered the lounge door with a “No Entry” sign. Then, the principal called the students to the gym and the teachers to the lounge. The PTO gathered in front of the lounge door with a small cardboard school bus in front of the door. Our principal made a short speech and said, “PTO, move that school bus!” The looks and gasps from our teachers made the hard work worth it!
