Auctions and Auction Tips
School auctions have certainly gotten more popular these past few years. Done right, they can be fun social events that help build a tighter community around your school as well as successful fundraisers. It's a nice combination.
But done incorrectly, they can really flop. For example, if you price your dinner tickets sky high, then you are going to discourage attendance and change the feel of your whole event. It clearly will only be about fundraising. Instead, price the dinner tickets as low as you can (right at your cost, even) and encourage as many parents to come as possible.
I'm all for auctions, but for them to succeed, you have to make sure they are right for your group and your school. That means a well-planned event with enough volunteers—and the right types of items. In fact, we recently heard from leaders about which items sell well at an auction, and which don’t.
