I ho

ope

ope you'll join me this week in saying a prayer for peace. Peace in our hearts; peace in our homes; peace in our communities; and -- certainly -- peace in our schools.

Last year at this time we tried to grasp the horrors of what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary, and we mourned deeply for all those lost in Newtown, Conn., that day. In many ways, we still mourn.

But we also remember and try to recover and move on. And your work in making our schools warmer places for all, making them real communities, is part of that healing process. Good people doing good things together is the antidote to hatred and loneliness.

Thank you for all you do for our schools this day and all year. Please keep at it. It really does matter.
