3 Things To Do Before Winter

I know, no one wants to think about winter (except maybe skiers). But it’ll be here before we know it, and there are a few things you can do now to set things in motion before the new season starts.

1. Plan something really fun. It could be a family event like a winter carnival or a potluck, or you can ditch the kiddos and plan a moms (or dads, or parents) night out. Just get something on the calendar that your community can look forward to.

2. Organize something for your volunteers. Last week I talked about whether you think you’re doing all you can to make sure your volunteers are having a positive experience. Midyear is a good time to make sure they know you appreciate everything do. Try one, or several, of these easy ways to say thanks.

3. Review your budget. Take stock of how things have gone so far. Did your fall fundraiser earn as much as you had hoped? Did you spend extra on events and programs? Or maybe you found some savings here and there. Taking stock now will help you plan for the second semester. You’ll know whether you need to gear up your fundraising efforts or maybe scale back on activities. Or if you have some extra money, maybe you can add an event or purchase something for the school, for example. Knowing where you stand financially is a key part of the planning process.
