If anything, show casing the book might just show the kids they do have a voice...

We do Pennies for Patients. Last year we actually won recogniztion for the school in our state who raised the most. The kids couldn't stop cheering! Here is their website:

We did a Copper for Cancer last year. Each class set up cups labeled 1 cent, 5 cent, etc... The students could bring in any amount, but the goal was to for their grade level to collect the most. If they brought in silver change, that amount was deducted from another grade level. Like a 2nd grader brought in 25 cent, they add it to 2nd grade amount, and they would pick a grade to subtract 25 cent from, and that grade had to bring them the 25 cent. The grade level that won got free icecream at lunch. We raised close to 1000, and for us that was pretty good. Plus it was easy and the kids learned more about money.

Our community holds its bunco for that month and all the money collected is turned over to my neice who does the "walk" in PA every year. Never done anything at the school though...Katrina kept us busy last year...

We've never done anything at our school, but I've been involved in several walk-a-thons for cancer awareness.

Hmmm....now that I think about it, I think we may have done a Pennies for Pasta at the high school level. The class that brought in the most money by the end of the week got a pasta lunch by a local Italian restaurant. The money was collected each day and the top three classes were announced on the loud speaker first thing in the morning to create a class war.
