Shawn - loved your site. I have an orgsite too and I am wondering, how did you get the counter on the bottom of your page (the one for days left for summer vacation). I loved that!! I agree w/ Anny. We just started ours this summer. So no one knows it's there but the Board Members. It has given me a chance to play and figure out how to do everything.

Orgsites is free and simple. Very easy to maintain.

We have many parents and teachers that check our website for upcoming events! We post everything about our annual dinner and auction towards the end of August (including live and silent auction packages.) We had many calls and emails last year thanks to the website. We have our board members and email addresses available on the site, and we have the latest newsletter in case the paper one didn't make home! Our school site is mce.sumnerschools.org and then click on PTO.

Orgsite is easy or ask a parent our school did (ME) its piggybacked on the schoolsite ( the principal mainly responsible for okay content) then I change and upload to district server Calahan St. Elem

I was the PTO pres. at the elementary level and help to created a website there. So when I got to the middle school they didn't have one so I met with the principal and worked with him to create one. So it's a school/PTO website combined. I maintain it. The principal has a page, the events calendar is posted, the lunch menus, PTO volunteer opportunities, Box Top contests, clubs, after school activities etc. It really took off when the 6th and 7th grade teachers started posting homework assignments. We went from 75 hits in Nov. 2004 to just under 39,000 hits in June 2006. It's a great communication tool. Communicaion is so important in M.S. Backpack notices don't fly. They never make it home or never come out of the backpacks! Our school council mailed home a parent survey this year and school communication was at the top of the satisfaction list (in part due to the website). I enthusiastically encourage anyone to start a website! You can get a package. You don't have to be a computer whiz. There is some intial set up required. We do have website guidelines established by our school dept. I update ours once a week. It takes about 30 minutes. Nothing warms my heart more than when a parent says "I saw it on the website!"
