I NEED a Plan of Attack!!! (LONG)

18 years 7 months ago #114215 by my3strongtikes
So far it hasnt been too bad I know she is spreading the rumors like wild fire. I just ignore her when she's doing it and if someone approaches me on it I'm just to the point.
As for the meeting she plans on bringing it up but I somewhat have it on the agenda. I'm just going to be direct and say that the officers made a decision in the best interest of the PTO and helping the students and we felt we needed someone who could work with the officers and staff better. I may give her a few minutes but if she has any real concerns she can take it to coordinating coucil. ( they already know of her too)

Thanks for all your advice. Glad I have a place to go when these things arise.

Do you have an agenda? If she asks to be on it then give her 10 min. When her time is up, move on to the next item. If she shows up & isn't on the agenda & wants to raise a fuss, tell her you'll put her on the agenda for the next meeting. At a school board meeting, if one isn't on the agenda then that person can not speak or raise an issue. It's the same at my soccer board meetings. If you have time for her that night, let her be the last one. Maybe by then if she brings others, they'll have a better understanding of how the pto works. Good luck!!!!!

Thanks for all the advice I did talk to the principal afterwards and she totally supported us said she basically just listened to her complaints. I did apologize to the few teachers that overheard her on behalf of the PTO and they all said that they all supported the PTO and that if she was that much of a problem they totally understood. I am going to let it just blow over.

My only question is our next PTO meeting is in January and not sure what to say if she brings an entourage to dispute it or cause a stink? Which I wouldn't put past her.
Any advice.

Agree, too. Serendipity makes great points. This is one of those tough situations that call for the PTO leaders to actually LEAD. You did what you felt was in the best interest of the PTO/students. Let is die out. Negative pot-stirrers like her are usually pretty obvious. Stay above her level of behavior, and the rest of the group will recognize your integrity and her for what character trait she chooses to demonstrate.

There really is no way to stop her from saying whatever she wants to say. You just have to be extra nice to everyone you know she is close with. I'm sure that it was apparent that she was making mistakes and going behind your backs. People know when someone is doing something out of the ordinary. They'll be able to see how your group functions without her and know that it all came down to this one volunteer.

We had this same problem last year...with our president!!! Fortunately she was confronted before she could create too many problems. She resigned at the beginning of September but we dealt with the fall-out for months afterwards. She promised things to many different people, but never told any of the other officers what she was up to. So for months afterwards, people would come and ask when they were going to get such and such and we were just completely clueless.

She still does alot of volunteer work at the school, but never associates with anything PTO. Most people are aware that she is a great volunteer, but don't count on her to do anything more than decorate bulletin boards or you'll be disappointed.

I agree. No need to meet with teachers. It sounds like you handled it well and in private even though others overheard. If only those teachers in question who overheard ask you about it, apologize and assure them the situation has been handled. Plus, all chairs should report to the President and the President makes the final decision. If anyone knows anything about being a "B", I do. I had to remove my secretary and two vice presidents by the second month of school. I recovered though and now the rough waters are calm again.
