Magic Reindeer Food: Stocking Stuffer Gift

Many families leave cookies and milk for Santa, but what about his reindeer? Magic Reindeer Food lays a glittering path to guide the reindeer on Christmas Eve.

[Note: while many recipes for Magic Reindeer Food call for craft glitter, this ingredient can harm birds or wildlife if ingested. Substitute colored sugar crystals and be kind to animals!]
In a small zipper food storage bag or empty shaker container, mix:

1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup red or green sugar crystals (for cake decorating)

Be sure to take this magic food and sprinkle on the lawn,
On Christmas, Santa's reindeer travel miles before the dawn.

Be sure you sprinkle all this food to catch his reindeer's eye.

Then stand back and make a wish that Santa's sure to hear
But do it quick you may hear bells and that means
Santa's near.

His deer will stop and munch a bit and you know that if they do;
Santa will come to your house with lots of toys for you.

Thank you for the great ideas. I want to share one I was given. Making a wreath. Cut out a circle with green posterboard. Then take gift bows and the kids decorate it (no glue, no mess, no cleanup). The only thing is you have to help the kids peel off the sticky stuff on the bows.

We just had our Christmas night last night at the school and it was very cool and very well attended. One thing we did which is very easy was letters to santa....we made the paper on home computers and then had the children write their letters and decorate wtih stickers if they were a bit too young to right. We also had a sweet shoppe that you could do easily with just some penny candy and give each child some tickets to cash in--or some pretend money and make it work towards their learning objectives of money management (not sure what grade we're at here). We also play pin the nose on Rudolph and one year decorated gingerbread houses (made ahead with graham crackers and hard icing and the kids just decorated with candy canes and gum drops etc). Finally -- you can have each child mix their own reindeer food using dried oats, raisins, nuts, and you add the magic glitter so the reindeer can see it from up high. Then attach a cute little prewritten poem. My children sprinkle their reindeer dust every Christmas. It's fun and now it's a tradition. Have fun...
