My 1st PTO meeting as President

MnM, I'll second that!

Stacy sounds like you would like to implement Family Fun Nights along with your PTO meetings. Can anyone add a link for her? Tim and the gang will even send you a nice little packet of ideas. :D

While you are waiting for that you could have a holiday event. Classes can sing holiday songs or talk about Christmas Around the World, Kwanza, Ramadan, and Hanuakah...Chanuka...the Jewish holiday that is celebrated in December. ;) Are you diverse? You could set up different areas for people with different religions to share their holiday beliefs along with their favorite holdiay foods.

If you are having a meeting in late February or early March make it Suess filled. Woo hoo. We get into Dr. Seuss around here. My friend made oobleck one time with her after school class it was really cool. One meeting I had our principal to read my favorite Dr. Seuss book that I can never remember the name of about growing old and waiting in the dr's office and all the test they run. It is hilarous.

Of course I would have to add a literacy night in there somewhere. Our schools have Fall into Reading nights in the county sponsored by our district FRC. They are awesome. In the spring the FRC puts on "Spring into Math" complete with games and if Easter falls just right there is a bunny shop for the kids to redeem their prizes from the games.

If we got a dollar for each complainer who came to a PTO meeting there would be no need for any other fundraisers. :D

So sorry about the complainer M n M Mom. I'm glad that the evening turned out to be a success. I'm sure once your complainer starts volunteering for committees or such she will realize all the hard work you are doing for the school, teachers and children. Best of luck for the rest of the year.

please excuse my vent, but I know you all can relate I two had my first meeting as president, I realized, people come to a PTO meeting for two reasons:
1. to get involved and help the school and to really make a difference, or
2. to complain.

I have to tell you, my big complainer, had her complainer notes TYPED UP, formatted, bulleted and Titled. What the heck? if she has so much time on her hands, why can't she send in her friggin membership form?
And my past president sitting in the corner with a big sour puss on her face. Yeah, I'm doin and fantastic job, 10 times better then her and she knows it.

On a super positive note, we had great attendance around 30, people signed up for stuff, great ideas came to life, everyone laughed, talked and clapped, it was really really great and I am pumped. and my principal had a smile on from ear to ear.

even my complainer, volunteered to do stuff.

Good Luck to all you first meeting newbies!!
