Explaining PTO

I love the powerpoint idea. I would like it if you could email that to me also so I can get some ideas. I got involved w/ PTO by my sister asking me if I would mind being the secretary. The current officers were ready to get out and nobody else wanted it. I said yes, I could handle being secretary. Well, our school district is going thru some changes and our JR. high kids will be moving to the High School. So we will only have Early Start thru 6th grade at our school. We only have about 15 members and we are loosing at least 6 parents. So we are working on ideas to get parents involved. So if anyone has any ideas we are ready to listen.

Pals, love that Powerpoint idea!!! We have round up in our media center so there is a computer and screen right there. Will keep that in mind for next year. May even use it a registration on a laptop!!!

Like the little Anybody-Nobody story too. I printed the page off so I can use that too.

pals: That is really a great idea doing a powerpoint presentation! If only I knew powerpoint 5 years back I would have done that! (just shows you I am still getting computer proficient every year :D ). The four lines you wrote about in your post reminded me of a little poem I have:

Sorry to hijack the post abit.

A short story about four people, Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that everybody could not do it. It ended that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Get involved, it is the only way to insure somebody does something that will benefit yours and everybody’s students.

Something that might be good in a newsletter or rounding up some volunteers for next year.

I have to say that I have taken a different approach to this. Usually on this day they have received soooo much info that they truly need to remember your presentation. Yes they get paperwork/flyers about us but we actually have a power point presentation that we show. Pictures are worth a thousand words, you pick a sappy song and put lots of kids pictures!! Seriously we also did a skit this year, since our name is PALS(Parents At Lanigan School) I arranged it so I had four current volunteers each with a letter card (p-a-l-s) Only they were all scrambled around the room. I pretended I was on a search for my friends and when I found one they had a cute line to say...the four lines were 1-someone else will do it 2-I thought you didnt need me 3- i dont know anyone there and 4-I don't have time. Eventually I got them all together in order, i explain that they were four reasons people don't get involved but spoke of experience on how yes you may not know anyone but neither did we and here we are now. Or someone else will do it...will someone? Or don't have time, i made sure i Had a stay at home mom, part time working mom, and a full time working mom to show examples. You really can have alot of fun with it, by the time our skit was doen people were laughing. I bet they still remember it...more than the same old...get creative ....it will say alot about your group!Good luck

We hand out our PTO fliers, Event Guides, tell a little about some special events, tell them about Room Parents. Hand out our Chairperson decsription.
