Our Principal said a few words about what she needed Dads to do around the building and we posted sign up sheets in the Cafeteria for them to join commitees! Hope this helps!

You could pass something out listing the skills and projects that are needed but know in advance that only a few will actually read it. Try giving a few dads, you husband and the husbands of a couple of there PTO moms a short list of upcoming projects or wish list projects to talk about while they are meeting new dads at the event. This seems to work out the best for us. They follow up with a newsletter directed to the dads mentioning the upcoming projects and specific skills needed. Good Luck and remember the event is about getting them on campus any help you get out of them is a bonus.

What about surveys or list of skill/expertice or projects we need volunteers for? (would that be appropriate) Trying to get the fathers (about 500) involved. We have very few (10-20) that participate/volunteer

We didn't have topics of converations for our donuts with dads. The dads talk to their kids and to each other. We did let them know that if time permitted, they were welcome to go to the library and read a story together. But I can't see there being enough time for planned discussions.
