Community Action is a state funded program in KY. I figured more states had them.

Yes, Community Action is a state funded program, through which the foster grandparents work.

Foster Grandparents are paid by the hour based on their SSI, just enough so that it won't interfere with their benefits. It offers training for them also. They are allowed to "work" in our schools and daycares. It is a great program.

I think she meant they are paid by a separate program throught the county or state. But even if you couldn't give they a salary, how about a lunch? At our school volunteers are invited to have lunch at the school on the school. Kinda nice so you don't have to leave and hope you can have your same parking spot back ;) .

I love this idea and we have many Grandpas and Grandmas that help everyday! The retired nurse has been a blessing!

Ours are volunteers so you don't have to pay them. Talk to the principal and set up a program to get them involved. Talk to the head of the senior center and see if they'll post and announce that your school is looking for volunteers to read to the kids or whatever.

We do not have any funds to pay people to come in but we do have a senior center in town that is a hang out plus classes and such for the community seniors. I am going to get in there and talk to them but how do I get them on board? Any grants anyone knows about that might help we are in CT. Thanks for the ideas!
