Volunteer Recognition

We have a VIP lunchon at the end of the year. We have a VIP position on our board, they have the full lists of parents, grandparents, etc. that volunteered during the school year. They also send a note to all teachers and committee chairs to get an updated list of anyone who has helped at school. Our first graders make placemats, the afternoon kindergarters sing, and groups of 6th graders put on a puppet show. At this time we honor parents whoes last child is graduating from 6th grade and the parent held a board position. Everyone gets an individual invitation, a nice lunch and entertainment. We have about 60 parents come to this but we have many more who volenteer in school. Everyone looks forward to this fun event. We hold in in our multipurpose room (the kids eat lunch in their classrooms on this day) and we provide babysitting for younger sibblings.

The teachers love to receive their gifts during Teacher Week, but do not do much to thank our PTO. My co=pres and I will handle this too. :(

If you are still looking for just the right poem to put on one of her gifts, please check out the collection of poems and quotes I've put on our Council PTA website.

Words of Inspiration
- hope one of the poems helps you!

I am looking to honor our previous president, who for personal reasons had to step down last month. She has led us for the last two years, but has been deeply involved for many. We are planning a small "ceremony" at our next meeting (tomorrow, 3/20), and I have a special certificate, pin, flowers, and cake for her. In addition, I am working on a piece of framed "art" on which a special poem will be printed, but am lost for words to write the poem myself. Does anyone know of any poems, quotes, or even places I might find one for myself?

Yes - NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK
April 27 th - May 3 rd, 2003

but also you might want to note that
Public Schools Volunteer Week is
April 20-26, 2003.

Some schools choose to recognize their volunteers at the last PTA/PTO meeting though and choose to send an invitation out to the volunteers - addressed personally to them - during the week of recognition, request their presence at the final meeting for a small token of appreciation.

One year we gave all our volunteers a nice refrigerator magnet that said everyone loved - titled
"101 Way to Praise Your Child"

I still see that same magnet on many of our refrigerators and many of the students have are fixing to graduate from High School next year!

"It's Elementary" a catolog we get at our school list volunteer week April 21-27. This is about the time we always celebrate it.

I can't imagine that volunteers, I will do good to have 20 to recognize and this includes our Character Counts volunteers! Last year we had a luncheon at a local diner, I gave them volunteer fannie packs, and we had a door prize. I made invitations on the computer and also made certificates. The whole thing cost right at $200.00. I am sure our budget is not as big as yours though. Good luck and have fun!
