*LOL* I always make up a lil "special" committee to put them on. Then they have less time to worry me and they still have something to run.

Hello, First get real clear that the mean and nasty attitude is truly not about you. This person sadly, is very insecure and does this to others no matter who is around. So, don't take it personally. Honestly, what you said was very accurate, when you were describing what was going on you did not appear to be mean or nasty about it but was genuinely concerned for the entire district, the importance of resolving issues and displaying a mature, nuturing community. So, if this is true, why don't you read your statement with an open and positive heart! If this does not get through to the person your directing at, then set your boundaries! Let her know you will not allow her to treat people cruelly, hostily or rudely. Fear based leadership causes problems, community based cooperation creates creativeity, harmony and resolves issues quickly.

Thanks for all of the words of encouragement. I have some good suggestions to think about and I don't feel quite so alone anymore!

I wonder if you can talk to the Principal somehow. Let her know "nicely" that there are some parents who are hesitant to speak out about her lack of respect. You are all volunteers and cannot take it much longer. The school and PTO organization will suffer. What about the Parliamentarian. Let her keep the Order during the meetings. Isnt that her job? I really think you should talk to the principal. It is HER school. If parents are afraid of this woman, then that might have an impact on PTO participation. I would also recommend getting at least one other mom to join in with you. Otherwise you will seem like an outsider and "disgruntled" with some axe to grind.
And if she continues to act badly at the meetings, ask her to LEAVE !! She is disrupting your meeting / flow of agenda.
Good Luck!

Boy do I know what you mean!!!! I was up against the same thing at the begining of our school year. I was so worried & upset. The principal liked this past president, and parents went to her because she was the past president & because she always dominated things. I found out that not everyone realy "liked" or supportrd her though, they were all just dominated by her controlling things in the pTA... Anyways I did read the Robert's Rules, I did not want things at our meetings to turn ugly with a "showdown" between us, or a control battle. And I was really afraid that she would never shut up at meetings, about how she had ran things. Anyways I made a PTA Rules of Order and passed it out at the first meeting, I only call on her to speek when she raises her hand & things are getting better!!!Good Luck
